Minister's Letter - August 2026

Dear friends

During a service some time ago I asked the Steward to lead prayers of intercession. She prepared the prayers well and they were very helpful. As part of her prayers she wanted to include those who were weary and tired. However, inadvertently she prayed ‘Lord, we pray for all those who are weird’!

You could say we all had a blessing that day!

Whether or not we consider ourselves to be weird (!), we all become weary and tired.

What do we do when we’re worn down, disillusioned and feel weak?

Sometimes there’s a tendency to push on and keep going, and maybe there’s a time for that if something needs to be completed. But what we have to remember is that rest is a gift, and God intends for us to receive it.

Following His work of creation God rested. And Jesus too withdrew from the crowds, despite them clamouring for His attention.

August is one of those months where many take some time to stop – to go away – to take some time out.

I hope and pray that whatever responsibilities you are carrying, you too will be able to ‘down tools’ and remember that we are meant to ‘work hard, play hard and pray hard’ (in the words of a friend to me when I started my time at Cliff College).

With very best wishes,

Adrian

PS For information, trying to practise what I preach, I will be on leave from Monday 17th – Saturday 22nd August inclusive.
