Pastor’s Letter
Most of us know about the Wright Brothers. Orville and Wilbur invented, built and flew the first successful airplane in the early 1900s. And I am pretty sure most of us are grateful to the Wright brothers for their invention, as it helps with long-distance travel, global connectivity for business and tourism, and economic advantages. But few know the name Katherine Wright. Yet in her brothers' story of creating their flying machine, Katherine was essential to their success. While her brothers concentrated on the innumerable details and experiments that led to their invention, Katherine chose to quietly and lovingly help them. She kept their bicycle shop going (the brothers' source of income), left her teaching job to nurse Orville Wright back to health after a plane crash and managed the endless details of her brothers' growing fame.
The value of the support of others is seen in Scripture as well. One example is Phoebe, mentioned by Paul as a ‘benefactor of many people’ (Romans 16:2). And Priscilla and Aquila, a helpful couple presented in Paul's writing, hosted churches where Paul ministered and even risked their lives for him. Additionally, the apostle complimented Mark, saying he was ‘helpful to me in my ministry’ (2 Timothy 4:11). We can be the right brothers and sisters in Christ by serving others. Who needs your help? What can you do to serve others in Jesus' name?
As I reflect on my ministry with our circuit over the past seven years, my heart overflows with gratitude for God's faithfulness and the unwavering support of our church community. God's ongoing work needs helpers—faithful servants who, like Phoebe, Priscilla, and Aquila, dedicate themselves to advancing His kingdom. I have been blessed to witness and serve alongside many such individuals in this journey of faith.
Scripture reminds us in Philippians 2:3-4, ‘Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.’ This passage perfectly summarises the spirit of service I have seen among us. You have repeatedly demonstrated humility, selflessness, and a deep love for God’s people, ensuring that His work continues with passion and dedication.
To all the Phoebes who have served tirelessly, offering support, encouragement, and hospitality—thank you. Your quiet but powerful contributions have been the backbone of my ministry. To the Priscillas and Aquilas, who have faithfully labored to teach, mentor, and guide others in the faith—your dedication has strengthened our fellowship and deepened our understanding of God’s Word.
I am especially grateful to each of you who has played a role in the life of this church, whether through leadership, acts of service, prayers, or encouragement. You have been a beacon of Christ’s love, reflecting His grace in both word and deed. Your faithfulness in serving has made an indelible impact, not only on me but on all who have been part of our journey together.
As we move forward, let us continue to serve with the same heart of humility and love, always looking to the interests of others as Christ has called us to do. May we be strengthened by His grace, united in purpose, and ever faithful to the work He has set before us.
With a heart full of gratitude and prayers,
Christvin Edbarg
